Chase & Status – Generic Everything (ALBUM)

Chase & Status are on everyone’s radar this week with Generic Everything, their seventh studio album, which dropped October 9. Early UK sales figures put it in a tight race for the top of the albums chart, which makes it one of the loudest new releases of the week.

Saul Milton and Will Kennard have been shaping British bass music for over two decades, moving from drum and bass roots to a Number 1 single with Stormzy on “BACKBONE.” Their run also includes a platinum hit in “Baddadan,” a BRIT Award for British Producer of the Year, and a sold-out UK arena tour. Generic Everything is the next step, and it arrives on their own 2RUFF Records.

The album runs ten tracks and refuses to sit in one lane. Drum and bass remains the engine, but the duo pull in dubstep, dancehall, baile funk, and road rap along the way. The opener, “Disgruntled,” pairs J Hus and IRAH with heavy bass, and Milton plays much of the guitar himself. The guest list is strong: Little Simz, Giggs, D Double E, Blanco, Skrillex, Debbie, and Col3trane all show up.

There is a clear idea behind the noise. The duo describe the album as a push against pressure to sound like everyone else, using a cube as their symbol for creativity being squeezed into one shape. The timing helps too. Midweek UK sales had the album at Number 2, behind only Jamie T, and the duo have narrowly missed the top spot twice before. A 2027 tour, ending with two nights at London’s O2 in April, adds to the momentum.

MusicPorta says: Few production teams can hold a room of rappers, ravers, and bass heads at once, and Chase & Status do it with real command. The low end hits hard, the switches between styles feel planned rather than random, and every guest gets space to bring their own energy. This is a duo with two decades behind them still sounding hungry, and it is a joy to hear.
