Yeat Turns Studio Time Into a Surprise Drop with “COCOON”
Yeat doesn’t really pause between eras, and COCOON proves it again, landing barely six months after his last album ADL with almost no warning attached.
What started as a teased “five-pack” of songs made while Yeat was on the road ended up growing into a seven-track project, his second full release of 2026 and the eighth extended play of a catalogue that rarely sits still. The one guest spot comes from Drake on “MISS MY DAWG,” a collaboration that reportedly got added to the tracklist at the last minute after the two premiered it together during one of Drake’s livestreams.
Sonically, COCOON plays like a rapper testing how far his own signature sound can stretch. “EARNËD IT” rides a beat that sounds pulled from a video game boss fight, Yeat’s vocals warped and distant like he’s rapping from underwater, while “HOLY WATËR” and the title track lean into a heavier, more atmospheric register that fans of his earlier Different Statement-era material will recognize immediately. It’s rougher around the edges than ADL, and that seems intentional, this was built from tour recordings rather than a polished studio cycle.
Reaction has split along familiar lines. Some listeners have called it the most exciting Yeat has sounded in years, pointing to the unpredictable vocal effects and the willingness to abandon a hook halfway through a song. Others found the Drake feature a little too safe next to everything surrounding it. Either way, the project is generating real conversation simply because of how it landed, quietly, quickly, and with almost no rollout at all.
