Not every hit starts out sounding like itself. “Risk It All,” the opening track on Bruno Mars’s long-awaited fourth solo album The Romantic, apparently began life as an uptempo pop song before slowly transforming into something far more classic, a sweeping, string-laden bolero that leans directly into Mars’s Puerto Rican roots.

The song itself is built around total devotion, the kind of declaration that doesn’t hold anything back, wrapped in tender guitar work and swelling strings that build toward genuinely operatic peaks. Mars leaned fully into that romantic framing for the video too, appearing as a groom in a matador-style crimson suit, serenading a bride outside East Hollywood’s Guardian Angel Catholic Church while L.A.-based Mariachi Los Criollos de Guadalajara provide the horns and strings live on camera.

A Spanish-language version, “Lo Arriesgo Todo,” followed soon after, eventually appearing as the A-side to a 7-inch vinyl pressing with the English version on the flip, further cementing the song’s bilingual, cross-cultural intent. It’s a fitting centerpiece for an album arriving a full decade after 24K Magic, proof that Mars still knows exactly how to make a comeback feel monumental.
