Fally Ipupa – XX: Delirium

Fally Ipupa’s “XX: Delirium” is drawing major attention as the Congolese rumba star turns back to the sound that made him.

Ipupa, widely called the Prince of Rumba, is marking 20 years in music since his 2006 debut, “Droit Chemin.” He split the anniversary into two parts. “XX” arrived on April 17, 2026, with an urban, Afropop-leaning approach. “XX: Delirium” is the rumba chapter.

Reports describe a sprawling release, with a 51-track edition issued in mid-September and a four-disc physical format. Ipupa has also tied the project to his knighthood in the National Order of the Leopard through the “Version Chevalier” title. Local coverage highlights how he revisits classics from the OK Jazz tradition, including Josky’s “Kitamata,” and brings in Chimène Folo on a Franco cover.

The attention comes from several things at once. The album is a heritage statement, it lands just ahead of his London O2 Arena shows on October 24 and 25, and it follows his Stade de France concerts earlier this year.

MusicPorta says: Few artists can honor the elders of Congolese rumba while still sounding contemporary, and Ipupa does exactly that. His smooth, expressive vocals and sense of rhythm give old classics a fresh warmth, and the scale of the project shows deep respect for the genre. This is a meaningful, ambitious return to the sound he has always represented.
