Victoria Monét featuring SZA – See You In My Dreams

Two of modern R&B’s most emotionally precise voices rarely cross paths on record, so pairing Victoria Monét with SZA for “See You In My Dreams” carries real weight before a single note even plays.

The song arrives as part of Monét’s new album Frequency Of Love, released October 2nd, and the writing credits alone hint at how carefully constructed it is, Monét and SZA sharing songwriting duties with producers Camper, Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman, and Branden Rowell, alongside a credit for Suzanne Vega, suggesting the track draws on older musical DNA woven into its foundation. That attention to craft shows throughout, a song built less around a big chorus moment and more around a slow accumulation of feeling.

Thematically, “See You In My Dreams” sits in that uncomfortable space between stubbornness and longing, someone who kept their guard up, let pride get in the way, and is now quietly haunted by the person they refused to let in. Rather than regret playing out as dramatic heartbreak, it surfaces subconsciously, in dreams, in unwanted recurring thoughts, the kind of ache that shows up uninvited long after someone’s decided to move on. It’s a familiar R&B subject handled with real restraint, letting Monét’s airy delivery and SZA’s instantly recognizable, conversational phrasing trade the emotional weight back and forth rather than competing for the spotlight.

Given both artists’ track records, Monét’s Grammy-winning run with Jaguar II and SZA’s continued dominance since SOS, the pairing feels less like a surprise crossover and more like two artists who were always going to end up on a song together eventually. The only real question was what kind of song would finally bring them into the same room.

MusicPorta says: Victoria Monét and SZA sound genuinely in conversation with each other on “See You In My Dreams,” neither voice overpowering the other as they trade lines about pride getting in the way of something real. It’s a quietly devastating duet that trusts subtlety over spectacle.
